M&P Trigger Job: DIY or drop in an APEX?

I just got my new M&P 45 and of course I want to improve the trigger. I already tore it apart and removed the magazine disconnect I also polished the surfaces on the end of the trigger bar and the tab that pushes up on the striker safety plunger.

Now the trigger is smooth throughout its travel. However, it feels like I'm pulling on a rubber band before it finally breaks. The reset is also rather vague, I would like it to be more pronounced (like brand G...)

I found this great PDF file for a DIY trigger job for the M&P:

Anyone tried it? The downside is that I'd be permanently modifying some of the parts and I'd probably end up buying new parts if I were to ever sell the gun. But I'm cheap, and the modifications shown in the PDF sure look a lot like the APEX parts.

OTOH, I guess I could just go with APEX parts from the start and be done with it:
    1) Hard Sear: I think this one is a must have ($40)
    2) USB (Ultimate Striker Block): Do I really need this? I'd rather not remove my rear sight to install it. If I upgrade to night sights some day I might put one in. ($35)
    3) Duty/carry spring kit: What is this for? Does it balance out the lighter trigger pull from the new sear? Does it improve trigger reset? ($20)
    4) The DCAEK kit for all items 1-3 ($90)

How about the "Failure resistant extractor"? Is the stock extractor "prone to failure"? ($45)

    Thanks!

APEX!!! Dont waist your time fiddling with geometry when Randy at APex has already figured it out. Buy the parts smooth them up and you will have the best money can get at this time. Best 100 you will ever spend. Buy everything including the RAM.

Thanks - will the RAM work in the 45 as well?

.45 Opps Sorry Hold off on the ram. The .45 one is coming. Soon. Get everything else. Plunger, Springs, Sear, Im running the competition spring kit and I get a clean break like glass at 2lb.13oz

Get the carry springs if this is going to be a house/carry gun. If its just a fun gun, get the competition springs.

I have a Burwell trigger job on my M&P 40 compact. It's extremely smooth and a very clean breaking trigger, has a little shorter trigger reset but still not very prominent. Anyway it's very nice, $85 bucks, not bad. The pull weight is 3.8 lbs. I do like it a lot. The expense is the shipping 85 bucks each way as handguns have to be shipped next day air.
I will probably do the Apex trigger parts on my next M&P which will be 45's in both full size and a compact because it appears on his video's his trigger reset is more prominent

This part if for shooters who are running their 9mms hard...competition or heavy training...as the M&P was designed around the .40 cartridge and the factory didn't design an extractor optimized for the 9mm rim

Would this part help at all for the 45? It would seem natural for S&W to put in a completely different extractor for the bigger round.

The Apex is awesome! It turns the M&P45 into another gun IMHO. For less than $50, I wouldn't waste my time trying a DIY trigger job that could have disastrous consequences. Start with just the sear and see how you like it, after than you can change out the plunger or go with the RAM or all of the above. For me, simply swapping out the sear has made me a very happy camper.

Did the new sear also improve the reset? I'm actually pretty happy with the stock pull weight, but the reset is rather vague.

No, the reset is still rather vague. For me, the trigger pull was horribly heavy and inconsistent so the sear was a perfect solution. If you want a better reset, you will have to go the route of the RAM. I don't think a DIY will help you in that department either.

Don't think so...it is 9mm specific. I would think the .45 would have it's owm extractor too

They don't have a RAM module set up for the .45ACP yet. The Striker block will give you a more distinct reset
