Tight Bolt

I need a gunsmith in the San Luis Obispo area. My Father-in-law gave me his Mossberg 695 bolt action shotgun. Looks like a fun gun, but the bolt gets really tight, almost stuck, about midway to loading a shell. I've looked at it every which way, and it looks like the bolt is getting pushed into one side of the receiver. I don't see anything in the way of the guides. I took my dremel & a fine grinding stone to the inside face of the receiver, but stopped before I got too into it cause I didn't want to screw anything up.

Any suggestions would be very appreciated.

I would put a dollop of rubbing compound on the spot I thought was giving me trouble and work the action in front of the TV for a half an hour.

Is it only when chambering a round? Does it bind when you close the bolt on an empty chamber?

Take a black sharpie marker to the bolt, and inside of the receiver. then run the bolt in till it gets tight a couple times. Then remove it and look for shiney.

once you positively identify where it's binding, then take action. GO SLOW! It's much harder to put metal back on if you take too much.

Yes, it binds with or without shells I shot trap with this a few times, and it performed fine. The last time I went out with it, I noticed it started to bind.

I really like this gun, but don't know much about them. Never saw one before he gave it to me. Are these good shotguns?

EDIT: It's a Mossberg 395KB.. .not a 695... checked the receiver. Thought it was a 695 cause that was the first thing that came up for "Mossberg Bolt-Action Shotgun" on Google! lol

Well... I took the whole thing apart. an a flat file down the guides & along the flat edges. The bore for the bolt got some 80grit treatment from a sanding bit... then I cleaned it up w/ 120. touched up all the sharp edges (just to soften them a bit). I cleaned everything out, oiled everything, and put it back together. So far, not having fired it yet, everything feels a lot smoother.

Thanks for the suggestions! The sharpie treatment showed contact @ the rear of the bolt as well as the front.
