Sig Sauer Classic Sight Pusher needed
- Hate is Fear turned out.Tags: None -
I have a 226R that came from the factory with some screwy sights. They guys at Irvington Arms in Fremont did it for me and it cost like $6-$8 if I remember correctly. The only problem was that they didnt have a range to test it. They did have a laser that they put in the barrel and it worked out great. Hope this helps!! -

Hey thanks for the recommendation(not being sarcastic). Please don't take the following as anything other than a review of my experience I just had on the phone right now with Irvington Arms.
I'm sure glad I called them first before going down there. At first I talked to a female(who didn't identify herself by name), who after I explained what I wanted, quoted me a price of $45 for a front sight. After restating and further clarifying what I needed, I was turned over to a male, who I had to explain my request from the beginning.
I talked to a guy named Dave. Honestly, I think I've been into that shop years ago, not sure if the same owners. However, even back then I left that place with the impression that I get from a few shops every now and then(in which case I usually never go back). Which is to say, not a straight answer to straight questions.
*Personally I always end up feeling like they're feeling me out before pricing the request, as if the price is literally being calculated on the phone, on the fly. Which might be understandable for some goods/services, just doesn't sit well with me for a service like this.
I asked a simple question. Which was: How much is it to put a front sight on my Sig P226 Slide? I'll bring the slide and front sight.
Background: I already bought the sight set. A Meprolight #8 or #9(can't remember) whatever one is for the Sig Sauer P226. The rear sight went on without an issue, using my universal sight pusher. The front went on half way and I had to stop because the universal impacts on the slide.
Dave asked; what type of sights, Tritium or non-tritium, what brand, and a few other questions that honestly didn't make that much sense to me. I answered them all. Mind you I'm not a gunsmith, but I have two different armorer certifications, one from the Sig Factory, and I've put on numerous sights on my pistols mostly Glocks, but whatever.
Dave, asked if the rear sight had been "fitted", and I explained no, it slid on with the sight pusher, no issues, and no gaping at the base of the dovetail to bottom of sight base. It might not be aligned horizontally correct but I can adjust at the range with the current sight pusher I have.
He then explained that the front sight even though half way on the slide at this point would need to be taken off, and then "fitted" meaning milled down or machined, or modified in some way, etc. Then attempted to be re-seated.
By then I was saying to myself... .uh. huh..
So finally asking how much for this process? How much to get the front sight on?
A MINIMUM of $25 dollars, and I was told that even then he wasn't sure it would be aligned correctly. <---???
Hell, even if he visually centered it, didn't use a micrometer, or laser measuring tool, etc... I could just take it to the range and push the rear sight right or left and after a few shots be done with it.
Again, very glad I didn't drive down there to hear any of this crap.
Not only do I not agree with his evaluation of what is needed to put the front sight on, I certainly don't agree with the price tag!
I felt strongly enough about my experience just now to post a review of this.
I usually don't post reviews of stores in general, much less a gun store, but given my request and the overall experience and lastly the huge difference in price I was quoted, I felt it worthy of note.- Hate is Fear turned out.Comment

yeah, I wouldn't go there either!! Thats funny because I totally got treated well enough to recommend them based on the one experience from the one and only time I went there. Sorry to lead you AWAY from your goal HA HA!! Also, good luck. I had a hell of a time trying to find a person that could work with sigs. Don't go to Reeds!! Their guy will only align the sights to his eye and then be done with it.Comment

Yeah, it was worth me calling and trying to get it done. Oh well.
Funny enough the few times I've been down to Reeds I was treated like a Champ. Could be that each time I've been down I end up spending a decent amount of money.
Hey, question for you, maybe this is more of a PM appropriate response from you, so if so, just PM me. I'm curious what the status of California State Firearms Pistol Instructor certification entitles you to? Not sure if I asked that question the right way. I guess more plainly asked, what do you do with it? Who do you train? etc.
Thanks again and Happy New Year,
