Hey guys..
I'm considering doing my own stock checkering on a rifle project I've been working on but I thought that I would try something a little more unique. Most checkering jobs are artistic and have some designs incorporated, like a diamond, or Fleur de lis, (I've even seen lightning bolts and batman logos
). I might try to do something a little more functional, partly because I have the artistic ability of your average 6-year old.
I was thinking that I would checker the wood to the contour of my hand, so that it would be more functional as opposed to asthetic. Plus, it would be customized to my hand and since it's being done to a rifle I intend to hunt with, it would provide a better purchase when being shot from the offhand position.
I've been looking for some pictures or other visual aids to guide me but I haven't come up with much. Any of you "smiths" out there ever see anything that's similar to what I'm describing?
Thanks for reading!!!
