mossberg 500 trigger pack assembly

ok, maybe i'm one note lately, but who cares. im having fun.

as promised, here is a step-by-step guide to disassemble (super easy) and then reassemble (not as easy) the trigger group on the mossberg 500.

once again, i have no idea what these parts are technically called, so i will just describe what they kinda do.... the photos should speak for themselves.
i used 1/8 steel roll pin punch and some fine needlenose pliers. that is probably the bare minimum for this job.

ok, here we have our trigger pack, as it sits in the firearm. get a good look at it, because if youre foolish enough to attempt this, it may be the last time you see it in working order.


ok, first off, we can remove the hammer. push the pivot pin out with whatever punch you have that fits. it is under tension, so hang on to it.


take note of the springs inside the housing. they need to somehow return to that configuration after you get it all apart.


next, out comes the pin for the bolt catch, along with those springs, like one of those trick peanut jars with snakes in it.


now we are able to remove the trigger pin. along with the trigger, comes an avalanche of metal bits, the safety, hammer spring&plunger doohickey(that holds the hammer rod in place), & disconnector arm.

ok, the last thing is to push the pin out for the disconnector itself. it comes out with the tiniest little watchspring that was ever in a firearm, methinks...


and its apart! see, that was super easy!


so you now can polish your sear, change out a bad part, do whatever it is that made you want to take this thing apart in the first place.

now the fun begins. first, we will replace the disconnector. it is the first part that must go in. dont forget about it! the best way to do this, is to start the disconnector with your punch, get it set up, and press the little watch spring in with needlenose. capture it with the punch, and then chase the punch out with the pin.


ok, now in goes the hammer spring and... piston... thing.... note orientation. you do not want to get any of these parts in wrong, its a pita just doing this once.


this is the way the trigger and safety nest together.

ok, when installing the trigger, you need to angle it down thusly, and get the trigger spring to clear the hammer spring. use your punch to nudge it past.


this part kind of sucks. you need to somehow hold the disconnector up (which of course, is spring loaded to flip down) while holding the trigger in place against the force of the hammer and trigger springs. while doing all that, you need to hook the disconnector with the disconnector arm and then put it in it's little hole on the side of the trigger.


slide the trigger down into place, and capture it with your punch, fighting against the hammer spring some more. chase the punch with the pivot pin.


ive got my pin in place, and everything looks as it should to this point.


next comes the bolt stop. try and get the spring to hang on it like this, if you do it just right, it will kind of latch on right there, and you can sneak the punch through it before it falls off into the housing. its hard to explain... sorry.

lol wut? this spring does not like it's home. but you must be stern with it.


use your needlenose to compress the spring enough to get it between the bolt stop and disconnector arm, then grab the coil on the bolt stop side with the needlenose, and push it down to where you can chase the punch through it.


you may then do the same for the other coil, and get your punch all the way through.


chase the punch back with the pin, try not to mess this up. it was hard enough the first time, and you dont want to lose an eye to a rogue spring. after you have the pin in, push that spring "tail" under the disconnector arm.


ok, now to install the hammer. put the little "hand" of the hammer arm around the little pin in the back of the hammer. and line it up like so. make sure the tip of the hammer arm sets in the cup on the hammer spring's piston... thing... and that the hammer rides on top of the tail of that spring thats floating in the middle of the housing, kind of lonely.

now press the hammer down into place, and install the pin. youll have to fish it around the disconnector for this to work... it gets in the way a little bit. not hard at all.


its good to go! do some function tests, make sure everything works (safety included), and if all is well, which it definitely will be if you followed directions and didnt screw anything up polishing for that hair trigger, you are ready to bust clays, doves, or even zombie heads!
