    DIY bead blasted barrel?

Suppose I have a stainless steel AR-15 barrel and I don't like how shiny it is. My friend has a compressor and a bead blasting gun. Can I just plug up the barrel and spray it with the sandblaster until it's not as shiny? Surely it would be too good to be true for it to be this simple.

My friend's sand gun only works with glass beads, or so the manual said.
