What are the ramifications (beside a lighter trigger pull) to fitting a lighter spring to the Edge trigger? I think I figured how to do it, but I don't want to cause problems for myself. The method is quite simple, non-destructive, and reversible back to stock....

Savage Edge trigger spring...

Well, I asked in other forums too, and apparently there are no other issues.
So here is What I came up with for getting a lighter trigger pull on a Savage Edge. This does not take the pull down to match levels, but rather to a 4-ish range, nice for keeping some safety in a beginners, or youth gun. And also, other than partially tapping a hole, it does not change the stock trigger and it leaves it able to revert to completely stock.
First, find a spring. they come about 1.5-2 inches long and are pretty close to the diameter of the large end of the stock spring. They come with various wire sizes and the one I used has a .017 diameter wire. It cost 46 cents. A thicker wire will give a heavier trigger.
Then you need a 8-32 tap and a set screw to fit. Get a screw about .400 long.
Remove the trigger from the gun, all it takes is the removal of the little 'E' clip and it's pin. Save the stock spring. Tap the hole that the stock spring seats in FROM THE TOP, about 1/4 to 1/3 of it's depth. Screw in the set screw. Cut the new spring to the same length as the large diameter portion of the stock spring.Set the new spring over the set screw, the cut end over the screw, this lets the flat finished end of the spring to seat in the same pocket as the stock spring.
Now, re-assemble and check it out.
