Search for the "grasshopper" jig. Easy to find parts, easy to build, almost easy to set up correctly. By the third flat you get the dimensions correct.

For the price of one flat I'll let you use the BEST from AK-Builder.com. You'll save 4x the amount you'd spend "jigging with it" in Lowes Hardware department.

      It's no problem!

If you don't have a welder, make this grasshopper jig:

If you have a welder, make something like this:

I welded my own. I made it from two 16" pieces of 3" square pipe welded together with angle iron at the ends. I used my trunnions (prior to demilling them) as the spacer for the jig in order to achieve a perfect fit. The square pipe has rounded corners, allowing the flat to slide in easily when pressing it. For the "ram" I used the same concept as shown in the grasshopper jig, ie. sandwich two 1.25" pieces of metal and bolt them to the flat through the various holes that are already there (like the pistol grip, magazine etc.) You'll just need to grind cutouts in the ram to accommodate the dimples and other protrusions in the flat.

Also look through the AK forums and look in the tools subforums, there are dozens of ideas for home made tools. If you are handy there is no reason to spend hundreds on fancy tools.
