    Odd 1911 issue

Hey guys and gals, I got a weird 1911 issue. Its a Springfield Mil spec and I went to take off the grips the other day and found that they removed fine except the left side top screw, the whole thing came out of the frame. I guess it would be called like a grip screw bushing(If I remember right, I thought I heard that). Ive tried Loctite and Ive had no luck with it. Any ideas on what I should do?

Take the grip off and put a bit of penetrating oil on the grip screw so that it penetrates between the screw and bushing. Give it time to work. Degrease the outside threads of the bushing and the threads in the frame. Add a good Loctite and reinstall the grip, tighten snugly, give the Loctite time to set up. Take grip screw out normally, when loosening, do it quickly to try to "snap" the two pieces apart.

If that does not work you may need to scrap the bushing and install a new one.

Ok now the only part I can put oil would be the bottom of the bushing. Is that where I should put it and then put the loctite on?

Take the entire grip off and turn it onto its face, put the oil on the screw itself.

There are different ways to get a job done per each customer's needs. I happen to like the screw in bushing that give me the option to change the bushings out depending on what type of grips I want to use.

How about screwing the bushing back in and using black loctite, that ought to hold it then bring the thing to a gunsmith and have him use a bushing tool to crimp all 4 in place. Should work, probably cost $14.00 including the black loctite?
