SKS cover latch

Years back I purchased a B-square scope mount that required the removal of the latch for the cover. And now I have decided that I don't want the scope mount anymore. I have purchased a new latch with pin, and of course there are no instructions etc. What is the best way to attach said pin in the small non threaded hole. I'm guessing I'm going to have to mig the backside and file/dremel fit from there? Or am I over thinking it?

Never seen them apart. It's not a press fit?

B Squared really screwed the pooch on this one. In '99 I bought a Russian SKS with this mount. Lucky for me, it also came with the original cover. IIRC, the pin you are talking about should just be press fit in with a small brass hammer.

Replacement pin is a loose fit in the hole.

Let me dig out my gun, look at it and see if I can remember what I did.

The pin I got with my replacement latch was loose as well. I ended up using a finishing nail which I just cut to length. Works fine.

OK, now I remember. The pin I had came with a head. I inserted it in the hole and peened the othe end over.
