Will this work for DIY Parkerizing?

Hi all,

I can not afford a stainless steel tank for parkerizing barreled receivers and
small parts on a "one off" basis.

I am looking for some other way to parkerize, avoiding that SS tank cost.

A friend said, "Hell, braze up a short piece of Galv gutter and go for it!.

Will that work for a one or two shot part "dip". Will the galvanized metal
screw up the process?

PVC or ABS tubing. If your going to paint the parts you can use Navel Jelly to etch the surface.
I wouldn't go with Galvanized gutter, black iron would bubble and you would have to guess when your stuff was done.

No. SS, chrome and alum are not affected by Park. Well, the Alu might get pitted as it is acid...

You generally don't want the bore parked. If it is chrome lined, no worries. It won't be affected.

Can the ABS hold up to 200deg? What temp does the galvanize come off at?

For the OP, if your just doing little parts a small glass bowl can work. I've read of coffee mugs in microwaves being used to great effect!

No. You should check out my VZ-58. I didn't know the gas block was stainless when I parked it. It's black with a SS gas block. Actually looks kind of cool.

Galvanizing is zinc plating on steel. I don't know how that would bear up to either manganese phosphate or zinc phosphate.

Check out stainless steel pans and stuff used in catering.

I folded my own tank tonight. 8"x8"x37" Scrap 304 "remnant" from a metal place. $36 by weight. Not saving too much, but I'm not paying shipping and get to do what I love. Weld!

We used a glass vase to park AKs at my first build party. We just heated the solution on the stove and poured it in a vase full of parts. Longer parts got done half at a time. Getto but, it worked.

Go to a restaurant supply store that sells used equipment. I have a big SS chafing dish for receivers and assorted parts. It was CHEAP, ~$20 as I recall. I keep it hot on my dual burner gas cooker.

I'm keeping an eye out for a speedrail I can use for an SKS I want to park, I don't have the courage to break it down without the right tools.

Just a precaution...
Stainless will not take color, but it can etch somewhat in the acid bath.
