Saiga front sight pressing

So let me start off by saying that I did read the sticky on doing this. I drilled out the dimples, definitely far enough. Then I used a copper slug on the barrel end to try to press off the front sight. I was using the bar stock that came with my barrel press kit from ak builder to support it and all that happened is the copper smushed, my saiga slipped in the bar stock and took out a chunk of the barrel pressing jig, and no movement at all on the FSB. I then went to the hardware store to pick up a brass screw with brass nuts, stacked up a couple of them on it, then tried to use that to press it off, same thing, smushed copper, bent screw, and the saiga slipped in the barrel press kit. I even heated up the FSB with a torch, same thing again .....I have no idea where to go from here. Ideas???

Stabilize the gun and press away. You could cut it too but you run the risk of cutting into the barrel.

Do you have an old one with pins? Take a pic and post.

Hold it, make sure nothing moves. Any way you can. Ever wonder why I keep a welding machine and steel plates around, that's why. So I can make s**t if something isn't going right.

If your still having problems get in touch with me. I have a brass slug that fits into the barrel and inside the FSB.

Its an '09 so no pins.....dimples for the pins on one side, but flat on the other, there is the one pin in the gas block though

Go with a 1/4" bit to make some room for that metal to move.

Try spraying the fsb with some liquid wrench and let it soak for 5 or 10 min. Throw it in the press again and load it up with some pressure.. Then take a hammer and smack the press really good. some times this sends a shock through it that will get it moving. Also try putting the appropiate sized wrench between the fsb and the bars when pressing it.. This will give it much more support.

That is where the basic AK fine adjustment tool comes in......the 5 lb sledge.
