    DIY Crowning

I just got my second Mosin Nagant and barrel is very long. I wonder if i can use a hacksaw can chop off like to 22" and somehow do my own crowning. How to i crown a barrel with basic tools?

I have done it on a Yugo M-70 barrel that I cut down for my AK pistol with good results.

Very important that the end of the barrel be perpendicular to the bore.
I then used the Brownell's 11 degree target crowning tool (they recommend cutting oil but lubriplate grease works better IMHO, and without chattering), and brass de-burring/lapping tool with 600 grit lapping compound.
The lapping tool, and compound should produce a bevel about 1mm deep on the grooves, and 2mm deep on the lands. Very important that it be the same depth all the way around the bore.

8 3/4" barrel AK pistol shooting Wolf M.C. HP (10 shots) at 50 yards looks like this:

Not bad IMHO for that short of a used Yugo barrel at 50 yards with imported ammo.
