Did you TIG the trunnions to get the penetration you needed, and did you fill the holes with rod or leave the rivets in place? There are 3 kinds of people in this world.
The wise, learn from the mistakes of others.
The smart, learn from their own mistakes.
The others, well......they just never learn.

I had a guy bring in gun that was a screw build and I had to shot some wire in there to fill the holes, then build up the weld material. I took it down and welded the receiver to the trunnion. Tacked in a couple of spots on the inside to make sure it wouldn't move.
You build looks clean. Flap wheel? There are 3 kinds of people in this world.

That's a Miller auto hood.
You could always chop the front sight and weld it to the gas block.
I used a POS flux core but didn't get full penetration. This is after I TIG welded it.

I use the 2" roloc's with an angle grinder also. I finish with a 120 and a fine fiber disk. Don't even know the holes were there.

I approve of where this rifle is headed. Leaving the flash hider? Or going with a fake can for the magpul look?Comment

You can knock the gas block over to where it needs to be and just redrill the holes at 1/8". The OE pins are 3mm IIRC and 1/8" is 3.14mm or something like that and just re pin using 1/8" dowel rod. It's enough to set it properly but not enough to eat into the barrel excessively.I did think about it but I noticed the GB on my AK was originally pinned crooked and I am to lazy to weld the barrel and reset the pins so I am just gonna scrap it and find the right one. I am gonna keep the rifle this time so I want it right (in my opinion) also I wont be putting a different rear sight on it and re-setting the front sight to the leaf sight seems to more work than its worth.
When I moved the sight back I also moved the rear to the cover. It's really tight and doesn't shift at all. I milled out where the rear used to be and installed a rail that matches up with the UTG hand guard. It's just sitting there in that pic, I want to get some steel rail and weld it in place when I'm not broke.
I've built a couple of custom jobs and a ton of standard AK's. I like to just see where it goes but have a general idea of what I want. There are 3 kinds of people in this world.
