    Headspace Issue

    Hello Fellow Calgunners,

I was checking the headspace on a Romy build and the bolt closes on both the go gauge and no go gauge. It is a numbers matching kit, so now I am stuck and don’t know what the next step is. The youtube video’s the go and no go act as they should.

I am sure that this has been addressed before, but in doing a search I came up with everything from Mosin to AR15 but didn't find anything on my issue.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you in advance,

you have a couple options. you can check it with a field gauge, and if it passes go ahead and blast away. or you can press the barrel in a few thousandths farther, and drill for an oversized barrel pin.

also...and I'm seriously not trying to be insulting when i ask this...are you sure you're using the gauges properly? I've seen more than one person who thought the method was to load 'em up and let the bolt fly under spring tension.

What toes said. By the way, what kind of condition is this matching numbers kit in? Did you personally press out the barrel from the trunnion? If not, does the number under the rear sight leaf match the trunnion's?

sounds like you've got the method right. and when you turned the bolt it closed completely on both gauges with zero resistance? yes?

man that's a burn...your location says "MO" town socal. I'd take a guess at where you are, but don't wanna get called a racist. where are you? maybe we can help.

Huh, I've never used gauges on any of my parts matching kits, maybe its better I didn't!! Do as mentioned, and try a field gauge. You can always try another bolt too, maybe yours is just wore down on the inside where the firing pin comes through. It only takes a thousandth or two to fail those gauges. Have any pics?

yeah check it out man. you're only supposed to use light finger pressure on those. if there's even slight resistance on the no-go then you're fine.

I will definitely post pictures when I am done. Still need to finish, as I knocked some Dura coat off when I was messing with the head space issue.

                        Thanks guys.
