    Mak 90 question

I was looking at kits and stumbled upon a Mak 90 parts kit that looked pretty good. It looked like everything was there except the rear trunnion. I know the Mak buttstock/trunnion are shaped differently, but will the front trunnion work properly in a standard AKM flat? If not, how hard do you think it would be to locate a Mak 90 rear trunnion?

When I can afford it I'm going to try and find a Mak kit. I had so much fun assemblying my Romy, I now want a blond Norinco.

A Mak-90 flat is different from the regular AKM one, I believe. A member here, Turboelky, is talking to Ak-builder about making the flat for them though, so you might want to contact him if you decide to build one.

The MAK-90 uses a thicker flat than normal. While some have used a normal flat and shimmed both sides of the trunions to make it work, you would be better to wait for the right flats. I have two MAK-90 kits that I am waiting on flats for.

Hey Bob, sorry I didn't catch you at the build at Alex's house I ended up building my Mak kit from a sheet of 1.5mm cold rolled sheet steel and a template (ace) the third one came out great... The rear Trunnion of my Mak is a dead ringer for my Romy. Get a Romy trunnion and only your hairdresser will know! Oh and remember the rivets on a Mak are slightly fatter by a couple thou, the standard one won't bite enough. Let me know if you need some I have a source.

I stopped by for lunch but didn't build.

I just dug out the two kits I have and while they even had the cleaning kits, sling, mags and the oiler bottle, guess what both kits where missing??? I guess I will be hunting for a few rear tunions too. PM me where you got your parts and rivets. I haven't even started ordering any US parts to build them yet. Once I finish with all the back to school stuff for the kids I will have to start getting the parts for these two builds. Lately I have been working on a pair of non-AK builds, but that may have to go on the back burner for a little while.
