I am interested in converting a Remington Model 16 semi-auto, chambered in 22 Remington Automatic, to "regular" 22 long rifle (or long or short). The 22 Rem Auto has been obsolete for 60 years and the ammo is available only as collector pieces at $3 to $5 each (and, of course, it wouldn't go "bang!" anyway). The 22 Rem auto is shorter and fatter than a 22 lr, so the gun can't be just rechambered. It would appear that I could solve the basic chamber problem with either a full length relining...or... reline just the chamber area and recut the chamber only. Of course, now I would have to make it new cartridge work, with its differnt size, but that's part of the charm of the project. Does anyone have any experience or heresay or ideas about this conversion (other than the obvious one to not do it)? Thanks.

If your Remington is in good shape I would not re-chamber it.
Not many of those nice pieces left. I have a Winchester 1903 in 22 automatic and I know what you by expensive ammo if you can find it. Quite a project if you can pull it off .Good luck.johnsgunsmithing@live.com
