Installing a triangle side folder on a saiga..

Hey all. So I'm doing another saiga project, and I wanted to go for a more traditional look. I saw some triangle metal sidefolding stocks on some krinks out there, but it looks as if they go into the reciever a bit. The stocks I've seen have a three hole mount that looks like it would have to be riveted on, not sure though.

So that brings me to the question, what would I have to do to a standard saiga receiver to make that work.

I'm pretty much hell bent on putting that stock, or the full size side folding solid stock that I've seen on some arsenals.

    Thanks for the help.

to get that stock to work you will have to make some pretty heavy mods to the reciever. Basically you will have to do what I've done here in this build thread

You will need to remove the old trunnion, weld up the holes, and drill everything new for the rear folding trunnnion. It's a lot of work. If you are not too sure about your fabbing skills you can go this route to get the same look. Its sticks out a little bit but is almost the same stock and slides right in like a normal butt stock, no mods needed.

Good luck with your saiga build.

those no mod stocks are like the ace external block, ugly as a mud duck.

It's pretty tough, especially if you've never done any sheet metal layout. Everything has to line up just right to make it work properly. A mill will be ideal, but the mods can be done with a dremel.

ugh, yeah that was what I was thinking, I looked at the kvar ones, they just don't look right. I guess I'll just throw a regular stock on it and call it a day then.

I adapted a Bulgarian triangle stock to an Ace folder to my Maadi/Bulgarian Krink. It's a RAW so I plan on having it milled for a real side folder soon.

On a side note, where do you plan on purchasing a triangle side folder? The ones DPH is selling require the trunion to be heat treated first. Real Bulgy side folders are expensive and hard to find.

There is a guy who can heat treat that trunnion. Also Turbo this is supposed to be coming up with US made trunnions.

Ive talked to that guy who heat treats them, I would just sooo rather have an authentic bulgy.

Is Turbo This producing just the trunions for these DPH folders?

Not sure, he has a thread on the AKforum.

I have owned both bulgarian and DPH and I find myself likeing the DPH more than the orig bulgarian. I had the trunnion heat treated.... also the orig bulgarian rear latch spring was so over powered sometimes it was almost impossible to install the spring..The DPH spring is much nicer in my opinion

For those who are interested, the Saiga rear fixed stock trunnion has the same rivet pattern as the AKS stock trunnion.

Alright, I'll bite, what does "adapted" encompass?

I cut off the front of the stock, then made a steel block with two holes drilled. I welded it to the stock so it bolts to the Ace folding mechanism with 2 allen head cap bolts. I shouldn't have cut up a real Bulgy stock but they were easy to find at the time.
