    Rem 700 Long Action?

I have an early 1980's Long Action barreled 30-06 hunting rifle. Were these actions capable of magnum calibers such as 7 mm win mag or 300 win mag? If so its time for a re-barrel.

    The action is capable.
    The issue is the bolt.

If you were to open up the existing bolt face, you would have to go to an external extractor such as a Sako setup as you can't easily change to a magnum 700 style extractor after the boltface is opened up.
Your best bet is to simply get a PTG bolt with the proper magnum boltface.
At that point, you might just consider selling the rifle and buying another one that's already a long action with magnum boltface though.
