I have an early 1980's Long Action barreled 30-06 hunting rifle. Were these actions capable of magnum calibers such as 7 mm win mag or 300 win mag? If so its time for a re-barrel.

Rem 700 Long Action?

The action is capable.
The issue is the bolt.
If you were to open up the existing bolt face, you would have to go to an external extractor such as a Sako setup as you can't easily change to a magnum 700 style extractor after the boltface is opened up.
Your best bet is to simply get a PTG bolt with the proper magnum boltface.
At that point, you might just consider selling the rifle and buying another one that's already a long action with magnum boltface though.Last edited by ar15barrels; 08-08-2010, 3:55 PM.Randall Rausch
