I don't know if this would be a good press for AK building or not but, the price and size is right!!

This is a good price, but its almost worth the few extra bucks to get the 20 ton since its needed for certain builds.

it would make a great second press, set up for just flat bending.

There are some things that short press won't do, but I have a 12 ton HF press with a 3 ton bottle jack on it and it has done everything needed to do an AK build so the 6 ton is enough pressure.
But I don't think the shorty will work to press in a barrel.

Unless got a tall table with a hole in the middle and something to support the receiver/trunnion

I'm not sure that will work, you also need some distance to install the GB and FS that the shorty doesn't have.

That said, I find using the threaded rod to install the barrel gives me better control.
