Springfield 1911 milspec HELP! msh issue

Hey guys so im knee deep in this mil-spec and im going crazy. I bought a flat MSH for it and like an idiot I went into installing it with minimum research(I looked for the pin for about 20 minutes until I found out SA doesnt use a pin they have it in the box, ya its that kinda day). I got it off and now the hammer isnt locking at all, the safety isnt engaging and im just lost now. So I tried to backpedal and try and get the grip safety and all that off and I just cant do it. Can someone help me out with this I can post pics if that helps.

The mainspring is probably installed wrong.

Make sure your sear spring is in the correct place (the bottom engages a slot in the frame), hold it in place with your thumb and then slide the new mainspring housing into place, make sure the hammer strut is where its suppose to be and that the hammer is down. Compress the mainspring that final little way (I hold the gun in my left hand and push down on the bench with the housing) then reinstall the pin through the frame (left to right).

Man I think I fubard this. The MSH is in correctly I think because when I put it in the hammer tenses up but it will not lock now and the grip safety is not moving at all. The trigger does move but obviously not doing anything now. EDIT- also the thumb safety does not move, is there a way to remove the grip safety with the mainspring housing removed?

When you replace the ILS, you also need to replace the internal cap and plunger (and spring since SA uses a very heavy mainspring in the ILS) and get that small retaining pin that the SA ILS doesn't use. The SA cap will be too long and the hammer won't go back far enough to cock when the mainspring is compressed with the factory cap in the spring.

your spring is too long for a standard MSH because your milspec has ILS. Check my post about installing drop in parts for pictures and information. I did it on my Mil-spec

Oh by the way, your thumb safety isnt moving because your sear spring probably jumped. You need to pull the sear spring out of the frame from under the thumb safety. It will allow everything to move freely. At that point you can pull the hammer back and remove your thumb safety. Just be careful pulling the sear spring out. You dont want to change the tension or twist it in any way. It's pretty tough so it should be ok though.
