    Khyber Pass RPK build thread

I just wanted to make a little thread showing how I plan to build a Khyber Pass AK. I'll start off by prepping the Yugo M70 fixed stock receiver flat from AK builder.

First I had to weld up the entire rear portion since the Khyber Pass calls for a triangle folding stock.

Clean up the welds and now I have a clean slate

The slots for the bolt carrier to drop in were too long so they will need to be shortened up.

    Closing it up a little

Clean up the welds and its looking much better..cant have the train jumping the tracks

Drilled some trunnion holes for the side folding trunnion and cut out for hinge side

    More progress tom.

Finished up the rear trunnion cut outs, still need to cut this for the standard AK pistol grip nut...

Pistol grip nut space cut and the flat is now ready. Next will be the cuts in the front for the front latch assembly

Here is the front end I'm using, it came as part of a numbers matching Romanian RPK kit in excellent shape to the tune of $390 shipped. Some Khyber pass AK's were RPK's cut down to sixteen inches. TurboThis cut my barrel down, he also head spaced and populated the US made barrel with all the parts needed. It came out really nice in the end.

Here is the rest of the parts included the $99 dollar DPH triangle folder, HobbyMachinist over on The AK Forum heat treated the rear trunnion so its good to go now. Also picked up some spanking new Russian RPK Hand gaurds and pistol grip.

Blued the barrel before the party, Strange....It didnt smell like cat piss this time around.

      Trunnions are a go

Looks good. Should've made your own rear trunnion, button, and stock for a real khyber look.

are you going to pin the folder or run a long brake to make the 30" OAL?

Don't make it too authentic. The real ones have inferior 3rd world craftmanship, shot out barrels, made from crapola scrap steel and are held together with green tape.

Never heard of these. Can I assume that these are "remanufactured" from all sorts of parts scrambled up by the locals? (Hence putting an AKS/AKMS stock with an RPK and whatnot?)
