Canted break??

I'm getting ready to install a slant muzzel break on a AK, and I vaguely remember someone mentioning that they are factory canted off center.
Any thoughts on this?

Yes. Looking at the front I believe its at a 5oc position. To counter recoil , It would push the barrel low left compensating for a right handed shooter during rapid fire (high right).

The factory brakes are canted (hole opening) to the right side when the FSB detent is into the brake notch. This is as others have pointed out for controlling muzzle rise.
One thing of interest, and the reason for my post is the Tapco slant muzzle brake that some use for 922(r) compliance actually has two notches in it for the FSB detent.
One that would cant it to the right (like the original design), and the other that would cant it to the left (for a left handed shooter).
Just thought that was interesting the first time I saw it, and thought I would mention it here.

Exactly, and precisely what my post states.
Just thought it was rather cool for Tapco to incorporate it in their 922(r) compliant design. That makes 2 Tapco products I like. Their G2 Double hook FCG, and now this. :P

Oh, I didn't read the whole post I didn't even notice my tapco break has that! I'm going to position it for lefties and see if there is a difference! Sounds fun

I am interested to know if there is a measurable difference as well (I don't have one on hand to test out).
