    Saiga 308 problems

so my 308 Saiga with the longer 22" BRL was not shooting well. I thought it was just cause I didn't clean it last time I shot it (a weak apart from range dates). I'd pull the trigger and no bang it is all stock with out any upgrades. Once I took it home and started to clean her I nticed the gas pitson has come out a couple rings and wont turn back. what should I do? I'm guessing my failures had to do with this part of the gun, but it shouldnt b/c the bolt should still hit the cap and go bang. I would pull the trig a couple times then she'd work. any thoughts or suggestions I appreciate it. Thank you CG'ers
    I mainly shoot .22lr, 9mm,45 acp, 357 & 38, 12G, 7.62x39, .308, .223/556, 7.62x54r, 300 win mag, 8x57

you might try posting on saiga-12.com forum with pics of the top of your receiver and other parts. they were very helpful with my saiga 12 FTE issues.

not an FTE issue its an FTF issue. I think your hammer spring might be walking into your trigger. The two legs of the hammer spring that rest on either side of the trigger have been known to slip inward preventing the trigger from releasing the hammer. Try cycling the action with the receiver cover off and squeeze the trigger each time and see if the spring legs move inward towards the trigger. If this is happening just give the legs a good bend outwards.

        thank you for the suggestions

dk94044: ive searched saiga-12.com but I cant afford spending time on another forum - CALGUNS is my favorite

4thstbct: I will check on the springs when I get home tonight - thanks for the help - last time i checked the hammer was releasing but no fire

do you guys think that the gas piston has anything to do with this?

no the gas piston doesnt have anything to do with this. If its not firing there is something wrong with either the FCG or the Firing pin.

Also, the gas piston is riveted in, is not supposed to be all the way tight, and should have some wiggle to it. Regardless it wouldn't affect how it fires, if there was a problem with your gas piston it just wouldn't cycle. If it is stock and the other suggestions don't help, maybe you should exchange it or contact them.

              +1 on the hammer spring

Also, check the firing pin. There have been some instances where the firing pin was broken on some Saigas.

Take your bolt out of the bolt carrier. Push the firing pin forward and see if it protrudes up from the bolt face. If the tip doesn't, it has broken off.

                          Problem with Saiga-308 rifles

I had the rifle not firing problem today. First shot fired, second shot would not fire, but around was chambered! Then it began a random firing problem after the first shot but it allways chambered a round and got progressively worse. I checked the hammer and trigger. Problem was that when the trigger was pulled there was not enough pressure to engage the second hammer position on the trigger mechanism. In order to get the engagement I had to put all the pressure I could with both thumbs (one atop the other).
I am still working on the problem. Cleaning the area on the trigger.
Do you think the Russians are doing this on purpose.? Other than that this gun is super accurate.

ok - back from CG BLM zombie shoot - met many cool people, including 69mach1 -> showed him the issue and he discovered that the hammer would not fully engage - this f'n thing was pissing me off - it ran fine when super clean & oiled but the after a bit it went back to poop. i literally was jerking the trigger just to see if it could shoot.

end result - get a new FCG (fire control group) dinzagarms - yes its like 70 bucks but they do all thee polishing and detail work. I shot his 308 that already had it done *thank you again 69mach1* his was smooth as silk. even bump fired it

its not the ruski's either they made it work good enough to pass all the fed red tape & ca b.s. but it needs the upgrade @least I know mine does
