    ar15 cycling problem

i have had my ar15 for a few years now but recently it will not cycle. Load a magazine it shoots fine, but will not cycle and eject the spent round. I can use the charging handle and it will pull out the round and when released it pushing the new one it like normal, just wont cycles.

i think it might be a clogged gas system. any opinions?, if it is the gas system how should i clean it?

    Thank you

Check the gas rings and make sure they are staggered. I've had one that lost enough gas to do what yours is doing.

Check to see if the gas tube is restricted. Nasty burning ammo will have an effect.

Check the "mushroom" on the end of the gas tube where it indexes with the gas key on the bolt carrier. If it is worn it will cause the symptom you describe. The material they are made out of is much softer than the hard chrome interface at the gas key and typically it wears on one side. Gas tubes are relatively cheap to replace. Also, check gas key screws for loosness.

check the gas key on the bolt carrier, make sure it's not loose. Take an Allen wrench and see if you can tighten the bolt down more.
