    AR 15 Lower Assembly

I put together an AR 15 lower receiver and the hammer is pushing on the bolt catch. The bolt catch moves freely when the hammer is cocked but binds when it's not cocked. Should it do this?

Every M16/AR15 I have ever handled does this. If you think about it, it doesn't need to move freely unless the hammer is cocked, and it wont be quite that far forward when it's uncocked with an upper in place.
Never initiate force against another. That should be the underlying principle of your life. But should someone do violence to you, retaliate without hesitation, without reservation, without quarter, until you are sure that he will never wish to harm - or never be capable of harming - you or yours again.
