    Mosin bolt maintenance

Alright guys, I need your help. I just bought an m44 the metal parts were finished in black enamel. Unfortunately, the bolt was also finished in the enamel and my question to you guys is...
How can I take the enamel off of the bolt? I want the bolt to be in its original steel( for lack of a better term) look.

Also, There is some resistance when I pull the bolt upwards so I am not sure if thats because of the bolt covered in the enamel or if my chamber needs to be cleaned.

    Thanks for your feedback.

By enamel do you mean paint? Use paint remover and steel wool. Once you get the paint off you can use ajax and steel wool. You can also put in in a pot of water and cook the paint off. When you get it clean, oil it. I blued one of my bolts, looks pretty cool that way but blue wears off quickly on such a hands on part. No pun intended.

Yes the paint is what I meant. The paint on my bolt is wearing off in some areas. Is there anything else that i have to do to the bolt or is that it?

As long as none of the internals were painted.

When putting everything back together, check out the firing pin adjustment procedure on this site. If you don't have paint remover, remember the cooking the paint off method.

Slather it up with paint remover, like Jasco. Wont attack the steel. If it is Moly Kote or the like, only blasting will get it off.
