    1911 Front Sight Replacement.

My front sight seems to have come off my 1911. Is replacing it something I can do myself, or will this require a gunsmith?

If it's silver soldered on, I'm sure I can do it but if it needs to be staked, or something, I'm not so sure...

If it's a GI type sight, it needs to be staked. You can buy the tool but I wouldn't bother. Have the slide milled for a dovetail front sight and an adjustable rear.

There is a special tool used to stake the mounting pin.
I have one you can use if you are in the area.
You can buy different kinds at Brownell's:
