    KG Gunkote

Just curious whose tried to DIY with KG Gunkote? I'm curious to see how this
performs over parked steel. I tried the Alumahyde II over a parkerized finish and it's tough as hell but a bit too thick for my taste.

I'd like to give it a shot if it's not too involved or expensive.

I use KG and Norrells ..
Both are easy to use and work great over park..

Real easy if it fits in your home oven to bake and cure.

Air brush can be the testor with a compressed can or the HF set up
      with compressor..

      I recommend that one..

Thanks uxo2, I plan on doing this to a couple Bulgarian74s and perhaps a tantal. It seems that paint is the original finish. Whereas bluing is to the Yugos.

I'm curious what kg's "Ak black" looks like vs. Norrells blacks. Why do you
like Norrells vs. the KG? Thanks for the links btw... very helpful.

        Thanks

        Eric

All the newer ones in different colors are made from stocks without lead (2400 series). The leaded stuff (2300) is more durable and goes farther, in my opinion. KG offers one type of the old leaded original Kal Gard Gun Kote here: http://http://www.kgcoatings.com/ind...id=24&parent=8
Unfortunately it is only sold in satin black. They will mix up leaded in colors for a fee.

Just a note on KG and it's owner, Joe. He is a stand-up guy and will help you with anything you need or through any troubles you have with his products. He will bend over backwards to make sure you are satisfied. During some correspondence with him, he found out my son was in the Army, and he immediately offered, and sent, several months of gun cleaning supplies for his whole squad, out of his pocket.
Between all the bake on finishes, with the exception of Cerakote, I believe they all come from the same basic stocks of chemicals, so Joe and KG get my business.

Norrells is very Flat black compared to "AK Black"

Norrells and KG are easy to work with and are durable.

When done properly...SANDBLASTING is the only way to remove them.

              Why Norrells....Personel preferance nothing else
The smell from spraying is what I love......
              Mask leaked...

Use a half face with P100 filters....

But KG has a buttload for color selection.

There are many here that love Aluma-Hyde II...Myself included.
              Works great for an AK.

And then there are the DURA-COAT lovers too...

              Cera Coat....I played with it....

Hey Kendog! Thank you for sharing your experience with Joe. That's good enough for me my man... I could use a little PB in my diet, lol... I'm going to try the KG 2300 in "AK Black" I'll post some pics when I'm done.

                Thanks again!

                Eric

I'm retired. That's right, retired. I don't want to hear about the cop who stopped you today or how you didn't think you should get a ticket. That just makes me grumpy!
