    AK-47 muzzle compensator loose

This has probably been discussed before, but I put an AK-74 style compensator on my newly built Romy G AK-47. Problem is when I tighten it down to when the spring post clicks into the brake detent its still loose by about 3/4's of a turn. So my question is this-

Is this supposed to be loose? If not, how would I go about fitting it?

I saw a "high temp silicone washer" for this brake, but they want $16 shipping for a $5 item. Is there a washer recommended that i can simply get from a hardware store? If so, does anyone have dimensions?

    Thanks all.

Here you go.....just get the whole box.....so you can pick any size you want....for around the same price of one o-ring at the gun store.

They actually have different boxes.....get the "high temp" and "chemical resist" ones.....think it's reddish colored rings.

Use at your own risk of course.

If it bothers you that much why don't you just put a cut out where you think it should lock up. If you just leave it alone then it'll be just the way Mr. K intended it to be.

X2, its an AK. None of them I've seen are "tight".

Your GTG as is. If I see an AK that is tight, I'm gonna assume it's never been fired or is a stunning example of eastern European engineering. (Bulgarian)

I've always wondered why they were loose, but after looking a quite a few of them (build parties) I learned they are just like that. I think it was probably easier to machine that way, to make for sure the slant is in the proper location. If you tighten it all the way down, you'll notice the slant is nearly upside down. If it was tight, and the slant was in the proper location, it would probably be a "precision" piece.. and there's none of those on an AK

You should also look at how many country's made AK's. Ever wonder why you can take parts from different countries and for the most part they all fit? Loose tolerances are the key and it works. Just a little insight into the genius of Mr.K, the AK is the VW of Semi auto rifles.

Ahhh yes, if it's youtube than it must be true!!!!

I've built or played with most kinds of AK's and for the most part they can swap parts. I'll say though the sweetest AK I built was this Bulgy AK74 Krink. The nicest one I've seen was a Yugo slab side M70 that was all blued.

There were a few guys at our last Build party this past weekend with the newest shipment of Krink kits. They were in great condition for sure. The only problem I've had so far, was trying to use Chinese Ak parts in a Romy kit. The bolt would not come NO where near headspaced. Other than that, yeah, most parts do fit just fine.. Nice Krink.

You could wrap teflon plumbers tape on the threads to tighten it up.

You can always push the detent in with your finger and thread the muzzle device on a few more turns until it stops or until the detent holds it on snug. Mine flop around all the time, I don't care though.

The real simple way to adjust your comp is just sand a small amount of the back of the comp off. In doing so you will allow the comp to be screwed on more and allow it detent to align with the pin.

Just go slow and check often so you don't sand to much off. In reality the amount of metal you remove is very small. Use some touch up blue to darken the sanded area.
                              Poke'm with a stick!
