    Adding barrel length ak

So im deciding weather or not to add a fake can to extend the barrel length on a ak project. Still debating weather or not to do this.
I though I read in the past it must be perm affixed, like welding. But then I was reading some old threads that just talk about screwing them on the barrel, no mention of welding. Like some longer ak 74 type brakes. Just screw them on and thats it?

So lets say I have to perm affix. I read somewhere about silver solder, I happen to have some but never used it, its something like soldering? Just flux, heat up and solder around the threads and can?

If it needs to be pinned I would drill through the can, and partially into the barrel not hitting the rifling. Then add a small rod and weld over the hole in the can? Or is this something jb weld could take care of since a can im looking at it aluminum.

Im trying not to do any damage to the barrel or threads, so if I have to I wont do this.

It would need to be permanent if you are trying to meet the 16" minimum barrel length. If you are already 16+ and are trying to meet 30" for CA then there is no permanence required.
You think you know, but you have no idea.

I havent started yet but its for a underfolder ak, I havent even measured anything yet but im sure if I use the folder it will be under 30. I know I can pin open the folder and that was my first option, but I would like to be able to fold it for storage. I dont really like the looks of cans but I found one that is shorter then the normal ones I see, 5 inches long.

I measured my existing fixed stock rifle, I would need 6 inches to be over 30" long if folded. Found this one http://www.ftfindustries.com/mm5/mer...gory_Code=AKAC and saw it on a rifle on this site, so I know how it will look on mine. It is a little longer then what I like, but if all I have to do is screw it on and not weld it, I dont mind that. So im guessing from the reply since my barrel is over 16" and im going for 30" overall then this fake can is fine just screwed on, no perm attachment.

Another option is something custom. I had the same issue as you do so I made a look alike spigot which I made a bit too large in diameter so that it's not an illegal device but I made it the length that I needed to make up my OAL and it turned out about 5 1/2" long.

I was trying to get one but no one will sell those to Ca, didnt know they were considered illegal here, guess because there are so many rifle grenades available. Sometimes the law just boggles my mind

I think this may be the one you are talking about. I cut a little groove into it so the plunger on the front sight keeps it from spinning loose.

guys just make sure if its to reach overall length, and NOT barrel length, it does not need to be permanently attached, don't ruin your rifles like that!

I really wish someone would make one that looks like the svd flash hider that is over 5" so it could be used on an underfloder.
