    AK destroying brass.

Hey, just curious if anyone else has seen this, its weird. I got a saiga, and it shoots fine, but every single case it ejects has the open end of it crushed in, like it's from a double, feed. It fires though, I really don't know what to make of it, anyone seen something like that before?

Can you post pics of the case?
Sound like you may have the case neck swelling syndrome.
      See thisthread.

Is it like the pictures from the link that was posted, or is it like somebody pinched the end of the casing with a pair of pliers or somethin?

I would disagree. The only normal markings from the 12 or so I have is the slight crease on the side of the case where it hits the top cover. I do get the damaged necks out of only one rifle and that is my PSL which is way over gassed.

most hit the top cover on ejection, not always as evident on steel cased ammo. brutal on brass. top cover can be relieved if you plan on reloading. if not, why bother.

some saiga's have a civilion barrel which is double stepped inside and they make the case neck have a swell to them, not to worry your barrel is the same as all others, it just makes that swell thats all.

                          Ok, heres an update.

Thanks for all the replies btw.

For the record, its a converted saiga, with about 300 rounds down the tube. The bullet guide is sturdy, installed correctly with zero play.
The ammo is that brass yugo FMJ stuff that Jgsales sells.
The mags are milsurp communist ones.

I went to the range yesterday. It stovepipes bad, around every 10-15 shots or so.

Now, I took the top cover off and didn't experience any problems. I didn't shoot enough rounds to make sure, but I think its a start. I'm going to grind down open side of the dust cover by a quarter inch or so where the shell ejects, then we'll see.

I wish I had a camera, but every shell ejected has a quarter of the casing mouth dented in, uniformly.

It's driving me nuts, not the messy eating habits, but the jams. I shoot corrosive yugo out of it so I never reload anyways, but when it comes to an AK I expect top notch reliability.

can u see on the dust cover or elsewhere where the brass is hitting? brass usually leaves marks on metal. it might give u a hint as to whats causing problems. check the top cover and charging handle

yeah, I was thinking about that. I also have a spare dust cover off of a Romy laying around, I'll try that as well.
