    Mauser '98 FTF issue

    Hopefully someone can help me.

I've got a Brno 1924 Mauser that I put a scope on with a turned down bolt and a side swing safety. Now the rifle won't fire, and I'm pretty sure it's the new bolt, but it's def. putting a mark on the primer. Beforehand, the rifle functioned flawlessly, and I'm using the same ammo. Any ideas? Thanks!

Sounds like your new bolt isn't headspacing. It's not the original bolt with a gunsmithed handle, correct? Only real fix that makes sense is get a different bolt and a headspace field gauge.

Probably not a headspace issue, although with a new bolt it's always a good idea to check and make sure it's still in spec. Sounds like the bolt shroud might not be threaded on all the way to the bolt body. Happened to me on my first Mauser build. Bolt cycled fine, headspace was good, but went click instead of bang, leaving only a light mark on the primer. Once I put another turn on the bolt shroud, everything was fine.

Yea, I was with him on that first build and it happened on my first Mauser build as well. Its a pain in the arse but that probably the issue.
