    .308 AR-15?

Anyone make a .308 that's compatible with most AR-15 parts? Seems to me you could build one that uses the LPK, bolt carrier, buffer tube, handguards, etc. I own AR's but never had an AR-10. I love .308 for accuracy and power.

Magwell is way bigger on a 308. The lower wont work, They do share quite a few parts but Different buffer, bcg etc..

You can't use the same bolt carrier.

So if you want to make your AR15 so it can shoot something really big, what is the biggest bullet it will easily take? I may go hunting someday! (yeah, right)

You can drop on a bolt action (or some semi small enough, or with side loading) anything <= .50BMG

Largest would be .50 Beowulf, but there are smaller calibers available, i. e. 6.5 Grendel, 6.8 SPC, .458 Socom, .450 Bushmaster.

Notice I didn't mention the lower or upper? I know I'ld have to mill those. As for the AR-10 bolt, the pics are interesting (thanks), but I still don't see why you couldn't use the AR-15 carrier. Isn't it used in the Beowulf? That's got a larger base then the .308. What about the Stoner? Does that use aR-15 parts, or are they mostly unique?

you need a different lower for 308 which requires a whole other AR.

for your ar-15 lower.. you can do 6.8 SPC or 6.5 Grendel upper
both of which require their own magazines

You could not mill an AR-15 lower to fit a .308 round magazine and my guess is that the AR-15 upper is way too short to house a .308 cartridge. It is not the base, but the length of the cartridge that matters.

BTW, MGI tried to bring on a lower with exchangeable modular mag wells to include .308. They never succeeded with the .308.

The AR-10 bolt won't fit in an AR-15 carrier.
The beowulf base is the same as a 7.62x39 which is smaller than a 308.
The stoner 63 uses very very very different parts.

.308's rim is .0278 larger than the Beowulf. Again, I'm not trying to put AR-10 parts in anything. I'm just figuring on building a .308 AR with as many stock AR-15 parts as possible. Just wanted to know if someone out ther has done it already, and if not why. Guess I havn't been clear on my intentions.
