    New AK-Builder Flat Die

I have the older flat bending jig and I am considering getting the new flat die but I have a few questions.

I see that you can now use flats with bent, stepped and trimmed top rails. that is a huge plus. I had the jig with the step down tool but it didn't really work.

Does anyone know if you can bend a flat that already has the bottom rails welded in? That would make the welding considerably easier.

Also do you still need to use axle or moly grease on the flats? That always makes a huge mess.

Last question has anyone sent any of there flats back to AK-Builder to have the top rails bent? What was the experience? Turn around time?

    Thanks,

    -JP

The man to ask about the new AKBuilder jig is 69Mach1. He has one and I've had the pleasure of using it. No grease involved, and it gets the new style flats bent much faster than previous models.

Life can make you do many things, even kiss a man with a runny nose.

Nope, the ejector on the lower rail is in the way. Use a tiny bit of grease, not for the flat, but to protect the die from major scratches that can transfer to following flats.

So Mach has the new die converted you from a NDS receiver guy to a flat guy?

Absolutely, but I still love NDS receivers.

I bought one and love it. Works just like the video shows. A little oil on the die, press and bingo! One perfectly bent flat.G.W.

Yes, perfect. This new jig along with the new flats makes a perfect looking receiver. No indexing holes in the bottom front of the receiver. No rounded bottom, and no ugly trimmed top rails. It even has the "step down" in the top rail. This is why I started building from flats.
