    Haven't built one.

    It's perfectly legal.

I would love to build one. Wish I had the money 1st and the time 2nd. Figure I had money I'd find the time, but I digress... would be awesome to do though.

Try these people, http://www.ktordnance.com. They are very high quality. I'm in the process of fitting a barrel to one now. It is a slow process (at least for me) because of the care that must be taken and the limited time I get to play with it. However if I do a second one it will be much quicker due to having already devised the fixtures and jigs.

The part that irritates me is having to do it at all. Citizens in most other states can simply purchase a complete frame. Don't get me started on that subject.

              Tks, Bill

I have done a lot of M1911 work. It seems to me that unless you are going to do several, it just doesn't pencil out. To do a good job you need a lot of tooling, Rail cutters, a Mill with tooling is helpful, Threading tools etc. I have those tools left over from when I shot on a pistol team, but to build one frame? It is cheaper to simply buy a complete gun to start with. Brownells sells the tools. You will invariably screw up the first frame that you try...unless you are a real machinist.....so better start with 2. It is like a home built airplane......It takes different skills to build it than fly it.

Yes I have a mill and yes Argonaut is correct that it is really doesn't pencil out real well. It does get me what I want but it isn't cheap. I do end up with a (assuming I do my part) a high quality piece. If I could purchase a Fusion, Ed Brown, Caspian or other quality frame, I would, rather than the 80%. But that isn't happening and so I'm off to spend some time bonding with the mill and a 80% frame.

I have worked with a Fusion Frame before. My advice would be to stay away from them. The one I worked on was really out of speck.

Currently building one. Found the frame at the Crossroads of The West Gunshow. Its a stainless frame with some machining done to it. All the castings he had were pretty damn good too. Magazines went in with minor filing. There's enough material to fit everything, but just enough to not make it a huge pain in the ***. Last I heard, he had more.
