Front sight epoxy

Can a ghost ring front sight post (LPA) be attached to a shotgun barrel by using an epoxy?

If so any recommendations on the type of epoxy to be used?

solder works better. That way, if its not right or you want to change it, you can heat the solder and take it off.

A friend of mine has tried this on his Rem SG. Over the last two years trying various epoxies including JB Weld, he finally gave up. On at least four times I am aware of the front sight has come off due to the barrel warming up and the normal recoil. Based on this, I reccomend u have it silver soldered on. That's what he is finally doing.

Has he tried gun specific epoxy? Heard good things about Blackmax.

If you epoxied it to the pedestal and bead, you would most likely break the silver solder holding the pedestal to the barrel before you would break the blackmax holding the sight to the pedestal/bead.

A punch and a chisel, but the barrel and sight might be trashed afterwards.

Seriously though, I think there's a dissolver chemical for Blackmax.
Never had a need for it though so I have never bought/used it.

+1 for Blackmax. OR use a barrel band type sight- then basically anything will work- blackmax, or Locktite green sleeve retainer.

once or twice I've called wilson combat and lied about getting a GR set with an expired epoxy pouch- they use a very very good product in their scattergun site sets.

I have a mossberg 500 that I wanted to install the facoty front sight on. I sanded all the blueing off of the barrel till it was a nice even steel, then I fitted the sight to the barrel (wrapped the area in fine sandpaper and gently ran the sight over the area until it conformed to the contours of the barrel exactly) then marked and roughed the area the sight would occupy. I left the front bead installed and cut it down to the size of the small notch in the front of the sight base to center it. Then I went to OSH, picked up some off brand liquid steel and slapped it on. Last weekend I went through about 50 2 3/4 slugs (federal 1600FPS) and many boxes of 00 buck and birdshot, around 100 rounds. Sight is still there!
Oh and for paint: OSH brand metal paint.

Ya it sounds bubba but to tell the truth it worked really well. Im just as surprised as everyone else!
