    Where to get Ebony?

    Hey guys.

I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction to a place that might sell ebony, mahogany and other hardwoods. I live in the so. cal...

I am looking to do some gun smithing projects, as well as some unrelated projects, like a custom cutting board for the kitchen. Anyone know of such a place in so. cal?

      if you are looking for small quantities of exotics, give Austin Hardwoods a call. 714.953.4000. They are on Santiago St in Santa Ana. They usually have in stock stuff like;

      Macassar Ebony
      Koa
      Mappa Burl
      Claro Walnut
      Amboyna, Bubinga, and Walnut burls
      Tigerwood
      Padauk
      ...and so on.

If you want something REALLY exotic (ie, super highly figured wood, or stuff that isnt commercially available), get in touch with me. I am a supplier to Austin and others like them.

What is it that you are looking for, anyway? I have over 300 species in stock right now.

Oh......I was gonna say your local strip club. There's always a girl named Ebony.

http://www.thewoodbox.com/exoticwoods/ebony.htm This looks like a good place to start.

WoodCrafters in Ventura (right off the 101) has all sorts of exotic wood blanks. Although designed for woodturners to make bowls and such, they make great knife handles.

You might want to take a drive out to Riverside, and visit Reel Lumber. They have a huge variety of hardwoods and exotics in stock all the time. The prices are reasonable and the selection is great. I think I saw some ebony the last time I was there.

They are at 3518 Chicago Avenue, Riverside CA 951-781-0564

Holy crap, never thought about them. To the OP, PM me with some info of what you need. I have a buddy who works at S.L./ace and I'm not sure if I can get a great deal but I'd bet I can get the best of what they got.

There's a place in Westlake Village, near Costco, that carries a decent selection of hardwoods.

The cheapest place I've found to get exotic woods is Paramount Studios Wood Moulding shop. They sell to the public and have everything.

Depending on what dimensions you need (and where you're located for that matter), you might try Luthier's Mercantile International. They're in Healdsburg and stock a lot of different tonewoods for guitars etc.

By far the best lumber yard/store I've ever set foot in.

i've got 40,000 board feet of 4/4 (1") and 8/4 (2") Macassar Ebony in the warehouse right now. That makes 'my pile' the largest in North America for sure, maybe the Western Hemisphere.

what is it, exactly, that you need?

...and yeah, Southern Lumber IS one of the neatest lumber yards around.
