    S & W Model 38

My Smith Model 38, aka bankers special, (.38 SPCL (not +p Rated) is "out of time, spits lead shavings sideways from the cylinde when fired. How do I get it in time?

Yes it is a Model 38 and the Caliber is .38 SPCL. My favorite carry but this bugs me.

    Any suggestions?

Bolt (cylinder lock) in the frame that aligns the cylinder is not working right.
Could be worn parts (bolt, cylinder, hole in frame where the bolt rises from) could be the lock work is full of pocket lint and gunk.

You can, of course, send it to S&W or a gun smith.
Or, if you are mechanically inclined, a complete dis-assembly, cleaning and inspection is next.
Spare parts can be bought everywhere.

      most likely a worn hand..

      If you never replaced one..
Send it out to a gunsmith to have the timing fixed
