Also ran some factory Federal w/no prob either. I can't tell anything different about the gun other than it works now, doesn't spit jackets out the side, and doesn't lock up. I am super happy that it works and I don't have to send it back again (knock on wood). Still, I had to go without it for seven weeks, but at least it works and that was good of Taurus to at least fix it and return it at their dime. Thanks to all for the constructive advice.
Glad they got it fixed for you! 7 weeks is a LONGGGGG time haha

good to hear its running properly now. I just picked up my 85 today, now I'm curious to see what happens when I take it out. I'll post a range report after I get a few rounds through it and hopefully have good news

Glad to hear of your success.
I have had a ported m85 in aluminum and titanium that has been 100%.
Besides cleaning the only thing i have done to it is Wolff springs which I highly recommend.

Did the springs lighten up the trigger? I'm guessing the mainspring was a little lighter than stock.

It certainly did and yes they were lighter. This pistol is an early version of the 85 series. I bought it new about 12 years ago.

Also....some of the posts in this thread were concerned about head space. This model has ZERO, or nearly zero headspace by design. This was one of their selling points as well as the full length ejector rod.

Oh...One more thing...My titanium and aluminum "multi" is the crispest, smoothest, best feeling "J" frame I have ever had in my hands. Go figure.

You know...It had been a few years since I looked inside this old guy, and looking in there now I see that i did do a bit of polishing in there.
                  Sorry if I misled.

The quality of Taurus has changed since you first got your revolver. I have heard that generally the older ones are better in terms of reliability.

Boy I hate to hear that. They certainly were looking like a forward leaning company back then.

Currently right now it is hit and miss on the revolvers from Taurus. Some people have had good luck and others have had bad luck like the OP. Usually most semi's from Taurus aren't that great but there are exceptions i.e. the Taurus clone of the 92FS is decent.

I've always wanted a cheap Taurus revolver but could never bite the bullet on one.

I know what you mean on the "hit or miss" (pun intended?).
I had a Seecamp that I did not like and could not really sell as it was a gift.
My brother in law had been lusting after it and was willing to gift me a new Sig P238 as a trade. As we are both papered in Texas that was not a problem but I watched folks going crazy trying to get the 1st years production to be worth a darn. Finally the wining seemed to stop on the internet so i went and looked at several until one had the right feel. It is an outstanding piece of gear.
I think I have my last pocket pistol. hahahaha...................maybe not.
