I'm trying to refinish my pistol with aluminum frame. I just watched Brownell's video on the process. Is there other product to use besides the TCE cleaner for degreasing/cleaning prior to spraying?

After I finished machining a diopter sight for a Sig 556, I sanded the aluminum with emery paper and rubbing alcohol. I then wiped it with rubbing alcohol and then sprayed Gunkote on it. After baking, it was on there real good.Last edited by nat; 02-28-2010, 8:53 AM.Comment

Denatured alcohol is what I've been using as of late. It's an excellant solvent and degreaser and it evaporates and leaves nothing at all.There are 3 kinds of people in this world.

Either denatured alcohol or I use Dawn and hot water. It will take all the grease/oil off the gun. I blow dry it with the air hose then let it dry. do a quick wipe with denatured alcohol then spray paint. Ive used this other stuff that is supposed to be for wiping down oil onmetal ( i think its called Metal Kleen) but i think it leaves a residue cause it smears.Comment
