    DIY AK Reciever Jig Design

Hey, I was having a look at this and thought this is a really neat idea! I am trying to wrap my head around the part that goes into how the top step down rails would work.

Any thought on this? I wonder how square of a reciever you would be able to make.

I built this jig and it works fine, your best bet is to buy flats with pre bent upper rails, like this place sells: http://www.akparts.com/index.htm.

Check out this thread that I started awhile back: it starts aout about rail placement and then turns into a whole build using this method and some other alternative methods, including welding the rails on first, I caught some serious critisizm for it, but the rifle functions perfectly: http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s...=234853&page=3, It does not come out as clean cut as the regular press and jig, but it is still very clean for being a cheap jig set up, and deffinately good enough to build a rifle off of. If you decide to go this route, PM me for more info.

maybe try using 2"x4" square tubing to stiffen up the top, or such the receiver through the bottom. I build this jig and the top bows out a little.......so i built it with bigger material :P

Welding the rails on first is fine too, just have to line the rails up with the front trunnion and clamp before welding.

/\ /\ I agree. I welded my jig together so it is pretty stiff and is exactly 34mm spaced apart give or take .5mm. it has 4 cross braces across the bottom so it wont bow out. With mine you dont pull the reciever all the way through either, you pull it down untill it hits the bottom braces then you pop it back out the top. Welding the rails on first is deffinately the way to go, especially if you are using a mig, dont try that rosette weld crap, it will trash your outter reciever.
