    6.5 Grendel headspace help

I did a upper trade with a guy for a Alexander Arms 16" ss 6.5 Grendel upper. He told me that he put 60 rounds down the pipe and that he got it from a guy that put 100 rounds down it. Now I get this upper and it looks brand new. I'm a little low on founds so I get a Alexander Arms 3-Die Set and 50 rounds of new Winchester Brass 7.62x39. Now I'm a newbie to reforming brass but after reformed it I ran a caliper around the brass and it all looks close to the right specks, other than needing to be fire-formed. So now when I put the round in the camber it won't close, I don't know if it was me or the head space is off. So I took it to a local gun smith "I don't think he works with AR's to much" he just told me that if it don't close the head space is off.

Now I hope it is just me and that I did something wrought that you guys can't help me with, but if not dos anyone know of a Gunsmith in San Diego county, Orange County or lower Riverside County that can ream out a 6.5 Grendel?

Now with this trade "which I think I was about $200 ahead on the deal" I find out the head space was off, should I give him a negative itrade for at least being lied to about putting 60 rounds down the pipe with the head space so far off that you can't even fire it.

Odds are the rounds you loaded are the problem and not the upper.

If it is the upper, Alexander Arms will probably fix any problems. Maybe you should order some headspace gauges.

Have you tried to chamber a factory round to compare? Based on your OP I'm going to go with the reloading..case / bullet is not to spec

What he said, plus you should get a case gauge to check if your brass is within specs.

Know I haven't tried any factory rounds, every place I looked online I didn't see any for sale or they were out. I can try harder to find some, or if you guys know were I can get some let me know.

I'm in Southern California and have some factory rounds as well as reloaded rounds for the 6.5 grendel. You can have a couple rounds to try out if you want to make a drive to Anaheim and compare. PM me if you want, always willing to help a fellow CG'er
