Ak build, almost done, need help!

I almost have my first ak finished, just two more stumbling blocks to solve.

First, I can not get my locking lever on my lower handgaurd retainer to fold and lock the handgaurd in. I tried soaking it in some wd40 to losen it up, no luck. Do I just get a rubber mallet and beat it into submission? I did parkerize my build, if that helps.

Second, I can not get my tapcomuzzle brake on! I know the threads are reversed. I get it to go a few turns, maybe two, then it becomes impossible to turn it by hand. I put some clp on the threads, but it was no help. Do I grease the threads or something?

Update - Taking the original flash hider off was a real pain, it was super tight, did parkerizing make the threads thicker?

Tap the lever just to see if it will move. Then be absolutely sure the pin is directly over the cut out on the top of the barrel. Then tap it until it closes.

Your threads are either messed up, or the tapco MB is. Check your muzzle threads. Although, some brakes can be real tight due to shotty QC.

The lever stops at 90 degrees, I can not get it to completely rotate with or without the handguard.

Move it forward and backwards a little. There is a sweet spot where it turns into the locked position. That has happened with my Romys also.

If you slide the HG retainer forward so that it is completely off the place it normally sits can you move the lever all the way? If so then you need to check that you have it over the cut. If not it's probably because you have some blast media wedged in there somewhere. As for the threads, the acid will reduce the surface slightly at first and then the free metals will bond to the surface building it back up however the buildup is not significant enough as to be the source of your problem. Given that you had difficulty initially removing the muzzle device before parking you will probably need to chase the threads, possibly on both the barrel and MD.

Sounds like you need to chase the muzzle threads. I have the die but not the pilot, I turned mine down to fit a .223 bore . . . still need to get another one.

why would you want a front handguard? It might just catch on fire like this guy on the vid.

If you bead blasted the parts before parking, chances are some of the media got into the lever or the parking solution itself can lock things up.

Oil the lever and start working it back and forth. As for the threads, parking "adds" to the overall dimension. So parking the muzzle brake and barrel (threads) has added crystal to both and that could be your problem.

Again, oil both the brake and threads and work them back and forth. Or the threads could be bad (small) on the brake and it would need to be taped to open up the threads.
