Clean it...Trigger pack and dissasemble the bolt
followed by a light lube of CLP.

    then try other ammo.

I have completely stripped and cleaned the gun twice, including the trigger group, I haven't tried taking apart the bolt yet, I'll try that next.

When it fails, is the round being struck? Can you see a clear mark from the firing pin?

As stated all ammo is not equal. I had a 550 box of Remington that would not run in semi autos. It would work just fine in my bolt Marlin.

Before sending it out buy a good box of ammo and try it. Get a box of CCI's or something like that.

i blame your ammo. my 10/22 hates remington gold. i mostly shoot federal or winchester. but even with those brands i still have failure to fire. like uxo said, "all .22s are not equal."

Remington gold ammo is total garbage IMOP. Switch to something like federal if you can find it. I had two boxes of the Remington myself and had all kinds of problems with FTF FTE in a 10/22T. The cases kept splitting as well. It cost me my Riffleman last year at an Appleseed shoot.Ammo kept Jamming me up on the timed portion. I had problems with it in other .22s as well. Look up Remington gold ammo and you will see we are not alone.
ETA. get some hot .22 to shoot through it to break it in. Something like CCI.

I dunno, I've never been much for guns. I mean, sure, we have the usual gun by the door, another near the TV, one in the kitchen, and another in the bedroom...and several others laying around. For the most part though, we keep our home free of guns. We are peace loving folks.

There is a clear mark on the ammo, its not as deep as the marks the bolt action marlin leaves but still there.

Ill clean the bolt and buy some federal bulk pack and some CCI Mini Mags and try it out again tomorrow if I can.

Also, make sure your bolt is lubed real well. Since it is a new gun and you put a bull barrel on it, it's probably real tight. I've heard of GM barrels having tight chambers. If the bolt is dry and the chamber tight, it may not have enough umph to chamber a new round reliably. Causing FTF.

I know Mini Mags are supposed to be really good but what is a cheap reliable pinking round? I don't need anything super accurate.

New 10/22s seem to need a few things done:

The over-sprayed-inside-the-receiver black crinkle paint seems to come off and gum up the works.
Clean off all loose crinkle-black paint gunk inside the receiver.
Be sure to clean this gunk out of everywhere, including the bolt and especially the firing pin and its groove.

Check the recoil spring guide rod. The rod itself should be smooth. Some new rods I have seen are so rough they seem to be threaded, which causes the bolt to hang up and not close completely all the time. Polish the guide rod smooth or replace it with the aftermarket one of your choice. Be sure to lightly oil it.

Check your barrels chamber to make sure it is not too tight.
Do this by simply dropping a fresh round into the chamber...if the round does not easily go all the way in, you may have a too tight chamber and need to use match ammo; or the chamber may just be too small for all ammo.

I always check function using Mini Mags...if a gun won't work right with them, the gun needs fixing.

I also suggest changing only one thing at a time.
First make sure your new gun works right with all original parts.
Then change things one at a time and function check after each change before moving to the next one.

I learned my lesson, I won't be modifying any new guns before trying it out stock.

As for the chamber being to small, I am able to drop a Remington round in and it almost goes all the way in under its own weight if I hold the gun vertical, and a slight tap with my finger full seats it.

I have two comments and one request.
First, bull barrels often have match chambers which don't let ammo drop freely in.
They rely on the bolt to seat the bullet into the lands.
That's why they are so accurate and also why it may take a cleaning rod to knock a live round out.

Please post a picture of some fired cases as well as a couple of the ones that did not fire.

Secondly, I have had a similar misfire problem with one of my 10-22's that I traced to firing pin fit within the bolt.
Check your firing pin to see if it slides up and down at the boltface within the bolt.
If the firing pin can move away from the center of the cartridge, it may not give enough impact to set off the primer.
The solution to this is to pin the bolt to retain the firing pin better.

not to sound mean but why buy the bull barrel then? you bought a aftermarket and more accurate barrel, then want to feed it cheap bulk ammo?

Sorry I didn't mean I don't ever need accurate rounds, I mean it would get pretty expensive if I used match grade ammo whenever I went out pinking around shooting golf balls and stuff, I still plan on using higher quality rounds when shooting groups, or should I not mix ammo in the same .22?

I am going to pick up some mini mags and maybe a few other cheaper packs of ammo and test it out at the range tomorrow or wed. If I have any problems I will take pictures of the ammo.
