How to polish out stainless??

I recently bought a used 1911 A1 made of stainless. The gun has a few minor cosmetic scratches on it which are very thin, of very litle depth in the surface.

Is there a product I could buy to help me buff out the blemishes? On wood I use rottenstone with baby oil and polish it with felt, is there a similar compond I could use for the stainless?

I've used Flitz on my polished stainless with excellent results. Others have suggested Mother's Polish as it may be a little less abrasive.

From what I've read, these polishes (while mild) are still abrasive and should be used sparingly.

It is like any other finishing, You have to start with an abrasive heavy enough to remove the scratches and work to smaller and smaller grits until it is where you want it. Final could be jeweler's rouge with a muslin wheel. Some scratches are deep enough that they are not worth taking enough metal off to remove.

wet sand with 1000 grit or more sand paper.

i have same pistol made a idiot mark puting it back together after cleaning it took it to a gun smith and he removed a deep scratch for only 75 buks
it was maybe 20 buks less than i would have paid doing it myself
alot easier than trying to do it ur self and risk making it worse
