    Fluting is so passe.

You want to go with dimpling instead...

can fluting and/or dimpling change how the barrel will act when it heats up?

I think the helical fluting looks pretty neat.

Just curious do you use a cnc with a 4th axis or a Bridgeport style with a jig or turntable?

I've thought about doing one just for the heck of it.

Looks liek about 200 dimples. Probably took about 1.5 - 2.0 hrs with setup.

Vertical mill with the barrel in a indexing head.

I wish I had CNC machines...
That was all done by hand.
The barrel has a straight shank so I just did it in the kurt vise.

I recall it being 180 dimples and about 1 minute a piece.

I am working on tooling and a fixture for barrel fluting in the future.
I have all sorts of ideas for a way to make a sorta universal fixture that allows for angle adjustment and goes into a horizontal mill.
