Depends on the finish. If it is bright, you might need polish and a buffing wheel. If it is matte, you might need to find a sand/bead blaster.

This stuff is an example of polish: http://www.brownells.com/.aspx/pid=8...EELS_N_POLISH_

Go to the Brownells web site and enter "polish" in the search box. You'll come up with a plethora of options.

If it's a brushed stailess look and stainless brush going with the current brush grain will work.

scotch brite pad, or you can go nuts like me, polish by hand. go up in increments from 400 - 1500 grit then polishing compound. Then people will ask, "When did you get it plated?"

          Really

stay away from the polishing wheel, I've seen so many guns really ruined with a wheel.

Yeah be careful not to let the wheel grab the gun out of your hands and fire it at the wall.(i don't mean discharge the firearm)

I've fixed "idiot marks"(not calling you an idiot ) on stainless slides by using fine (600-800) grit wet sand/emery cloth. Just be sure to stroke/sand in the same direction as the existing grain.
