Removing Tapco blind pinned muzzle break from amd65

newbie building an ak pistol. barrel measures 16-1/2" from bolt face to end of break. it needs to be under 16" right and i want the tapco break gone anyway to put on a slant break.

    1. has anyone remove a blind pinned tapco muzzle break before and how?
    2. new slant break i put on needs to be welded on right? JB ok? or does it need to be welded and pinned on?
    3. i am correct in the barrel need to be under 16" measured from bolt face to the end right?

    thx!

If you got the kit from copes distributing, the the break is probably pinned and welded. You will have to locate where it was pinned and drill it out, making sure not to drill through the barrel. Your new break can be welded on. Or it can be pinned and welded on. Make sure that the only way to get it off, would be with a drill or a dremel tool. Good luck.

Sand off finish and you will see slight discoloration from pin/weld.
Drill thru slightly into the threads of the muzzle.

      twist off.

      or split it

hack saw off the extension close to muzzle
      then Dremil.....

Spriral cut close to the muzzle
      Close to the threads.
      180 degrees apart...2 cuts.
      then split open with chisel.

      Be careful !!!

If you are building a pistol, you don't need to weld or glue the slant brake on.

my thoughts exactly. will see in the am. just blasted the brake to find the pin @ 6:00. will go from there. times 2!

and adam, i don't think that's right. pistols cannot have a threaded barrel to the best of my knowledge. i plan on welding the slant.

There is no maximum length for a pistol barrel! There is just a minimum length for a rifle barrel.

As long as you are doing a fixed mag build (the only legal way to do it), you do not need to permanently attach anything to the muzzle. My MB comes right off by unscrewing it. If I was not 100% sure it was legal, I would not have posted that! If you were doing a detachable mag build where the magwell was inside the grip, you would be right about a threaded barrel being an issue. You're not. So, don't worry.

So, were are pics of the build(s)?

It sounds like you used too much water. Doesn't the jug say a 4:1 or 3:1 solution? You did an 8:1! Read the instructions on the jug.
