    80% AR10- NEED HELP

At the last gunshow in Del Mar I met the guys from calguns.. Mentioned to them I was planning on doing an 80% build soon. was glad to hear about this forum.

This week I am purchasing an 80% AR10 lower from jd machine tech, they make DPMS clones. I have access to a drill press, but that is all.

Any suggestions on where to get a jig?
Also need access to a mill.

Any help or advice will be appreciated.
If there is anyone in the San Diego area who has experience or a mill, pm me

How much is the 80% lower going to run you?

There's a deal going on right now on a DPMS compatible lower made by Iron Ridge Arms for $250.

There is no existing ready-made jig that I know of for finishing 80% AR10-style lowers.
You will have to make your own jig or use a modified AR15 jig like I did.
Or, if you hold out for a while, there's a rumor that a certain vendor just might be coming out with complete and 80% DPMS-style .308 lowers as well as maybe a jig, but at this point the truth and timing of such things is unknown.

Don't worry, you will spend $250 on yours by the time it's of equal quality.

            absolutely.
and then you will realize that EVERYTHING else .308 AR is so crazy expensive that you might as well just give up and stop trying to save a buck here or two there :P
            (i'm kidding, of course.... mostly)

maybe so, but I will have the satisfaction of building it myself.

At least do something worthy of an 80% and make it a pistol.

                  If I wanted a pistol, I'd build a pistol.

Others may not but I could see your point. Can you post a pix of a finished AR pistol please. Also, where can I find a finished upper for a pistol build. Much appreciated.

ahem.... if you're looking for AR pistol pix, build threads, how-to's and general info, they're all over this forum. look around a bit.

if you're talking about AR10/ AR .308 style pistols specifically, then they are indeed pretty rare. i have a few AR .308 80% lowers i'll be finishing in the coming months, and will probably do a pistol just for fun. as far as uppers go, any will do, just need a short bbl.
i'll certainly let you all know how it turns out

Umnn...would the gas hole in the barrel had to be further back or would the standard location suffice?
